Solar PV Installations

The latest venture from local electrical contractor, Gilbert Electrical Ltd. is an expansion into the installation of solar panels to generate electricity (solar photo voltaic).

Everyone can benefit from fitting a solar generation system onto their home or any property that they may own.

A typical solar pv (photo voltaic) installation consists of an array of solar panels, usually placed on the roof of a building and ideally (though not necessarily) facing south, which convert solar energy (sun light) into electricity. The electricity then passes through an inverter and a metre (which measures the electricity generated) and then into the consumer unit (or fuse board) of the building.

  • •    The government introduced feed in tariff (FIT) pays the owner of the system for every kilowatt that they generate, even if they use it. This gives the owner a very good rate of return on their initial investment.
  • •    It will reduce the amount of energy that is drawn from the national grid and therefore reduce their electricity bills and carbon footprint
  • •    They can also sell the unused electricity back to the grid for an additional payment.

The feed in tariff started in April 2010 and is guaranteed for 25 years from the date of installation. (This is the amount of money paid to owners of solar photo voltaic arrays generating electricity and feeding it back on to the national electricity grid)

The government have recently reduced the feed in tariff due to the high uptake and the reducing cost of installations however it is still a very good investment and offers a good return over the life of the system.
